A hit-and-run collision involving two vehicles occurred today on Interstate 5 North near Carmel Valley in San Diego, California. The incident took place around 3:10 PM when the driver of a white Acura ILX, distracted by her cell phone, failed to notice that she had struck another vehicle. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
Witnesses indicated that both vehicles continued driving after the impact. The Acura was later found stopped in a slow lane just north of Carmel Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified shortly after the incident and arrived on the scene approximately ten minutes later.
Upon arrival, CHP officers assessed the situation and determined that the Acura was not drivable, necessitating a tow truck. The tow truck was called to the scene around 3:25 PM. The CHP remained on-site to manage the situation and ensure the safety of other motorists.
As the afternoon progressed, the CHP provided updates regarding the estimated time of arrival for the tow truck, which was initially expected to take over an hour due to heavy traffic conditions. By 5:17 PM, the estimated arrival time was updated to approximately 30 minutes.
The incident caused some traffic disruption in the area, but the CHP worked diligently to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow. The situation was resolved by late afternoon, allowing drivers to continue their journeys without significant delays.
Motorists are reminded to stay focused while driving and avoid distractions, such as using a cell phone, to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. The California Highway Patrol encourages all drivers to remain vigilant and report any incidents to help maintain safe driving conditions on California highways.
